Working on different levels, the GIZ Regional program for the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources  in Central Asia aims at contributing to a sustainable land and water management and to the conservation of biodiversity in Central Asia. “Hot spots” of unsustainable resource use addressed by the program are the degradation of forested land, of rangelands and of irrigated arable land, and the protection of biodiversity with a focus on wildlife management. As these natural resources form the basis of rural people's livelihood, their sustainable management also has a positive effect on the reduction of poverty.
